The U.S. Marine Corps is a shining example of courage, commitment, and patriotism. But, in recent decades, this corps of fighting men and women has also become known for their charitable efforts. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is an organization dedicated to bringing the Christmas spirit into homes that are suffering from the scourge of poverty. In more than 50 years of service, the Marines have distributed more than 330 million toys to more than 150 million needy children. The Marine Corps Toys for Tots program is not simply a giveaway program. It’s also an effort to bring joy into the lives of little ones struggling to survive.
Organizers of the program truly believe that they
are helping to build a better America. They contend that the children
helped today could very well become the community leaders of tomorrow.
They hope that, as adults, these children will give back to the communities
that helped them when their families were struggling. USMC Toys for
Tots is committed to helping families—particularly those families
who lost their homes and possessions in the hurricanes of 2005.
You may not realize it, but the contributions from the Marines Toys
for Tots have reached a staggering $287.7 million. Of course, this accomplishment
would not have been possible without the millions of ordinary citizens
who are willing to give of their time and money to help the program
flourish. The program has truly become a Christmas tradition in a number
of communities throughout the U.S.
A number of national companies have chosen to partner with the foundation in order to help the toy program to become a success. Sponsors include Quantum, Toys R Us, JPMorgan/Chase, UICI Insurance, Big Lots, and Group Sales. These companies recognize that the program provides a tangible benefit, not only to the children it serves, but also to the community as a whole.
It has been said that the past is the best predictor of the future. Given the foundation’s phenomenal success in the past few decades, hope is bright for USMC Toys for Tots in the future.
